Who is Sister Hong? The terrifying case of the Chinese man who posed as a woman on dating apps and tricked hundreds of people.

The Sister Hong case has caused a stir on social media, as it concerns a Chinese man who, using makeup, a wig, and a costume, posed as a woman and managed to trick men through dating apps.
According to initial reports, this is one of the most viral and scandalous scams in China, which has also raised awareness about the risks of social media platforms.

Sister Hong is a 38-year-old man who, through fake profiles and a meticulous strategy, managed to defraud thousands of men emotionally and—in some cases—financially.
Media has revealed that his “friendly demeanor” and “low-key appearance” quickly earned him the trust of users.
The Indian media outlet The Economic Times has revealed Sister Hong's modus operandi, which involved connecting with men through various dating apps and requesting food, basic necessities, or low-cost electronic devices in exchange for intimate encounters.

The man, who disguised himself as a woman using heavy makeup, a wig, and loose clothing, convinced his victims to come to his home in Nanjing, where he secretly recorded the encounters without their consent and later posted the content online for profit.
The case escalated when videos of the encounters began circulating on social media platforms like Weibo—where they have already accumulated more than 200 million views, according to The Economic Times —and users began recognizing their colleagues, husbands, or acquaintances in general.
The arrest of Sister Hong Hong was arrested on July 5, and authorities have already opened an investigation into him, as it is a crime in China to record sexual acts without consent.
So far, at least 237 people have been affected, but the number could continue to rise, as Sister Hong is estimated to have been operating for four years.
