In a letter, model Laura Gallego announced her resignation from the title of National Beauty Contest of Colombia 2025 as representative of the department of Antioquia after several videos circulated on social media in which she asked questions such as " who would we shoot first? ", referring to politicians such as Daniel Quintero and even President Gustavo Petro .
" My name has become a topic of national debate. My political stances have been singled out as if thinking, expressing opinions, and defending principles were incompatible with being queen ," she said in the letter, in which she also alleged attacks against her.

" Public attacks have been issued from figures such as Daniel Quintero and Gustavo Petro, whom I have openly questioned as a citizen for their actions and speeches that I consider harmful to Colombia ," he added.
Context and triggerThe videos in question show the model and other people in informal dynamics where she states phrases such as: " At least a slap for Petro " and compares the " Petro supporters " to having an incorrect brain function.
These statements generated widespread criticism, as they were interpreted as a symbolic incitement to political violence. The pageant organizers and media outlets began questioning whether such comments aligned with the expected ethical profile of a candidate with national visibility .

What the National Beauty Contest saidThe National Beauty Contest had already issued a statement to assure that " it does not participate, either in its own name or in the name of the Miss Colombia contestants, in politics ."
Furthermore, they also stated that she " defends the institutions " and that she " rejects any pronouncements by the participants regarding political activity ." Gallego, for her part, expressed her discontent with this and with the controversy generated by her videos. She emphasized that she does not intend to remain silent about what happened.
" Faced with this reality, I refuse to remain silent. I refuse to be part of a system that demands obedience instead of independent thought. I refuse to let a crown become a gag ."
