Green Day in Colombia? The band confirmed their next stop will be South America.

Since early May, Green Day 's name has been making the rounds in Colombia. This American band, known for performing "American Idiot," "Basketball Case," "Good Ridance," and other hits, has posted a video on social media that has left more than one fan feeling emotional.
Through a video, the group hinted that their next stop is Colombia and other countries in the region. "South America, your time to shine has come... Big (and we can say huge) news will be announced Monday morning (May 19th)," reads the post, which features a cartoon of a child walking down a sidewalk with several flags in the background, including those of Peru, Chile, Brazil, and others.
This would be the third time that Green Day would visit Colombia, after their visit in 2010 and 2017. It is still unknown if these dates in the region will be part of the promotion of their album Saviors (2024) or if, on the contrary, they will continue with the anniversary theme of American Idiot (2004), as in the Coachella festival, which took place in April. The truth is that their other two visits to Colombia were to promote studio albums.
Green Day's live debut in Colombia was in 2010 at the Nemcatacoa Festival, just outside Bogotá. The band, led by Billie Joe Armstrong, closed the event, sharing the bill with The Bravery, El Cuarteto de Nos, V For Volume, The Mills, and Jamiroquai.
This show was part of the promotion for their album 21st Century Breakdown. However, they only performed four songs from that LP, focusing a large portion of their catalog on their two most acclaimed works: Dookie and American Idiot.
Greenday formed when Billie Joe Armstrong and Mike Dirnt were just 14 years old, but was called Sweet Children (1986), with drummer John Kiffmeyer. The band signed with Lookout! Records two years later, releasing an EP called 1,000 Hours and changing their name to Green Day, a nod to the musicians' passion for marijuana.

Kiffmeyer left the band shortly after, in 1990 , and was replaced by drummer Tré Cool, who previously played in another California band, The Lookouts.
In 1991, the album Kerplunk was released, selling 50,000 copies initially in the US, and is now considered one of the best-selling independent albums of all time, even selling nearly 2 million copies internationally.
This brought Green Day opportunities to tour both at home and in Europe, which caught the attention of major labels. After signing with Reprise Records, the band began working with Rob Cavallo, who would go on to produce Dookie, Insomniac, Nimrod, American Idiot, and Uno/Dos/Tre.
Though many early listeners felt they weren't punk enough for mainstream fans or accessible enough to be considered a mainstream rock band, Green Day's success was built on forging a unique musical path on their own terms.

Which also prompted them to write Dookie, an album that Fuse magazine called "the most important pop-punk album of all time." With the massive popularity of singles like "Longview," "Basket Case," and "When I Come Around ," the album sold over 10 million copies in the United States, turning Green Day into a genuine musical phenomenon. Soon after, they attended festivals like Lollapalooza and Woodstock '94 and received a Grammy Award for Best Alternative Album.
