Alvear MunicipalityNext Sunday, March 2, starting at 8 pm, Avenida Alvear Oeste will be transformed into a vibrant sambadrome to celebrate the long-awaited General Alvear Carnival . The party will begin at km 0, in front of the San Martín Monument, and promises to be an unforgettable event for all attendees.
The parade will begin with the participation of the Murga del Barrio Parque Quillagua, followed by two murgas from different parts of the country , “Los Amigos” and “El Rejunte”.
This year, the carnival will feature a diverse cultural expression, which will include local artists such as the “ Carnaval Veneciano” troupe from Bus Producciones and the “Ividance” and “Marcando Stylo” academies. To add even more color and rhythm to the night, a troupe from the department of San Rafael, “Tropicalisima Samba Show”, will also participate.
The grand finale will be in charge of the famous “Comparsa Marí Marí”, considered the largest in the country. Founded in 1981 under the direction of Nelita Bermúdez, Marí Marí means “good day” or “the dawn”.
This comparsa has been recognized for its spectacular costumes and the talent of its pasistas. During its first years, it was directed by José Luis Gestro, who managed to lead Marí Marí to obtain 12 first prizes thanks to his innovative adaptation of the Brazilian carnival.
The parade will go down Avenida Alvear from the Monument to the Plaza Departamental, where the murgas will stand out for their contagious rhythm and percussion.
Meanwhile, the troupes will dazzle with their spectacular costumes and choreography, offering a unique visual and sound spectacle. The final performance of Marí Marí will last 70 minutes, with the participation of 55 artists who will combine dance and music in an impressive display of colour and talent.
The Municipal Culture Department has placed a fence along the entire avenue, from the monument to the square, and will install bleachers on all blocks so that the public can comfortably enjoy the show.
Additionally, attendees are encouraged to bring masks or streamers (not foam), and there will be a glitter booth with three makeup artists offering free makeup, so everyone can join in the festive spirit.
María Delia Achetoni, Director of Culture, said: “The idea is that we all celebrate.” Without a doubt, this carnival will be a celebration that will bring the community together and offer a night full of joy and tradition.
