Francis Ford Coppola admitted to a hospital in Rome after heart surgery

American director Francis Ford Coppola , 86, is hospitalized in Rome after undergoing scheduled heart surgery. He confirmed this last night in a social media post.
"Dada (as my children call me) is doing well," the filmmaker wrote from the Tor Vergata Polyclinic, where he underwent surgery to treat a heart condition he's been suffering from for decades: atrial fibrillation, which was diagnosed more than 30 years ago. Atrial fibrillation is one of the most common arrhythmias. Although not always serious, it can lead to complications if not treated properly. In Coppola's case, a minimally invasive procedure using catheters was chosen.
Coppola was in Portland, Oregon, last Sunday promoting his latest film, " Megalopolis ," and arrived in Italy "with the utmost discretion" to undergo the surgery. The film director regularly visits the Mediterranean country and was also scouting locations for his next project this summer.
Born in Detroit in 1939, the son of Neapolitan immigrants and a visionary of the film industry, the legendary filmmaker is responsible for titles such as " The Godfather," "Apocalypse Now ," and "Dracula." Throughout his career, he has won six Oscars and other accolades, including five Golden Globes and a BAFTA Award.
In 2002, Coppola won the 50th Anniversary Special Award at the San Sebastian Film Festival, where she had earlier in her career won the Golden Shell for 'The Rain People' (1969).
