preview for How Angelina Jolie Became an A-List Actress and Director

Angelina Jolie, the godmother of the Trophée Chopard Award at this year’s Cannes Film Festival, made a stunning debut on the red carpet this evening. Jolie stepped out for the premiere of Eddington in a shimmering nude gown by Brunello Cucinelli, adorned with delicate embellishments. She completed the look with a diamond necklace and matching earrings, wearing her blonde hair down in a soft side part.

Jolie will be presenting the Trophée Chopard Award to Marie Colomb and Finn Bennett. She posed with them and Chopard co-president and artistic director Caroline Scheufele on the red carpet:

Scheufele spoke glowingly of Jolie’s appointment to the godmother role, telling WWD, “I am so happy to welcome Angelina Jolie as our Trophée Chopard Godmother. Her amazing film career and dedication to making a difference in the world make her an ideal role model. I know the rising talents we honor this year will be inspired by her journey and advice.”

Jolie added, “I am honored to be Godmother at the Cannes Film Festival. I am pleased to have a moment to recognize young artists and their exceptional work.”

Jolie will mentor Colomb and Bennett through the year.

This is Jolie’s first big red carpet appearance since the Critics Choice Awards in February. The star spoke to W magazine at the start of the year about whether she always wanted to be an actress.

“I did it in the beginning because it was my mother’s dream,” she said. “She pursued acting, but by the time my mom was 25, she was divorced with two kids and she decided to focus her life solely on motherhood. She didn't make me feel like it was a sacrifice—she loved being a stay-at-home mom. But she really wanted me to be an actress. I don’t remember making the choice. I remember it made my mom happy. My mom was my manager, and we were a team. I always wanted to buy her a house, and I started to pay the bills. When my mom passed, it was harder for me to be an actress because I realized how much of it was for her.”
