Work on the Independencia-Abastos Highway System is progressing at a rapid pace.

Work on the Independencia-Abastos Road System is proceeding at a rapid pace from various fronts. Pile driving has already begun on the northern section, while excavation and the removal of remaining installations in the central strip of the boulevard continue.
At the construction site, there is a piling machine used to drive the elongated steel structures that will support the roadworks. Some have already been installed along Independencia Boulevard from east to west, especially at Lima Street, while others remain stacked and ready for installation.
According to the executive project, the Independencia-Abastos Road System will have 776 piles, which will be placed on both sides of the underpass, which will be 500 meters long, 200 meters in the tunnel area, and two ramps measuring 150 meters each.
Meanwhile, in the central strip, where the boulevard's median strip was located at the height of Calzada Abastos, crews of municipal workers were removing wiring, in order to remove the streetlights that are still there, while personnel from the Comprehensive Road Maintenance System (SIMV) supervised the operation of the traffic lights, so that they would not be affected by the maneuvers.
Most of the work is concentrated in the north section, including the relocation of the 48-inch diameter underground sanitary sewer line, the largest in terms of induced installations.
This restricts east-west traffic to a single lane, from Abastos Road to Puerto Príncipe Street. Along the same roadway, to the east, the right-hand lane is being paved. Once completed, it will be reopened to traffic, which will improve traffic flow at that point.
