Uruguay: where and when will Yamandú Orsi's presidential inauguration take place?

The inauguration ceremony of Yamandú Orsi as the new president of Uruguay will take place this Saturday, March 1, at the Sodre National Auditorium in Montevideo , and not in Plaza Independencia , as planned, due to the forecast of rain.

The decision, which involves moving the ceremony from the historic square in the centre of the capital to a hall with a capacity for 1,800 spectators located 200 metres away, was made "due to weather forecasts."

The inauguration will take place at around 4:30 p.m. , when Orsi will receive the presidential sash from Luis Lacalle Pou , the outgoing president.

The ceremonies for the presidential transfer of power, inauguration and signing of the minutes of the incoming ministers will be held in the presence of foreign delegations, national authorities and special guests .

“If weather conditions permit, President-elect Yamandú Orsi is expected to go to Plaza Independencia to greet the citizens and then participate in the artistic show,” explained the event organizers.

The ceremony at the Legislative Palace will be held at 2:30 p.m. , with the Commitment of Honor before the General Assembly of the president-elect and the incoming vice president, Carolina Cosse .

After five years in opposition, the leftist Frente Amplio will return to the national government it led between 2005 and 2020, thanks to the victory of Orsi , a 57-year-old teacher.
