The Trump administration sanctions 13 airline routes between the United States and Mexico

The Trump administration sanctions 13 airline routes between the United States and Mexico

On October 28, it was reported that the U.S. Department of Transportation will cancel 13 routes, both current and planned, of Mexican airlines.

It was reported that the Trump administration will take these measures because there was a breach by Mexico of a 2015 air transport agreement.

It is estimated that the sanction will also remove combined services between the United States and Mexico's Felipe Ángeles International Airport ( AIFA ).

Sean Duffy , the United States Secretary of Transportation, said the decision was made because of the Mexican government's 'constant abuse' of the United States-Mexico Air Transport Agreement.

' Joe Biden and Pete Buttigieg were too weak to stand up to Mexico when they trampled on our bilateral aviation agreement. These agreements are binding, and just like our trade agreements, President Trump will prioritize the United States and enforce them, ' Duffy lashed out.

The affected routes will be those operated by Aeromexico between Mexico City and San Juan, Puerto Rico; as well as routes between the AIFA terminal and the Texas cities of Houston and McAllen.

Meanwhile, routes between Mexico City and Newark, New Jersey, operated by Volaris, were also affected.

The new Viva Aerobus routes from AIFA to Austin, Texas; New York-JFK; Chicago-O'Hare; Dallas/Fort Worth; Denver-Houston; Los Angeles; Miami; and Orlando, Florida will be cancelled.

' Until Mexico ends the games and fulfills its commitments, we will continue to hold them accountable. No country should be able to take advantage of our carriers, our market, and our passengers with impunity ,' the Trump administration asserted.

It was added that the measure will affect the expansion of services by Mexican airlines between the United States and the Benito Juárez International Airport ( AICM ).
