The Government repealed the Statistical System of Imports (SEDI): “It met its objectives”

After almost 14 months of operation, the Minister of Economy, Luis Caputo , anticipated on Monday night that "the repeal of the Statistical System of Imports (SEDI) would be published in the Official Gazette, through a joint resolution of the Agency of Collection and Customs Control (ARCA) and the Secretariat of Industry and Commerce" dependent on the Treasury.
Caputo stressed that the measure was taken "after determining that the mechanism met the objectives of normalizing, making transparent, organizing and streamlining the import system ." "The main objective of SEDI was to obtain advance information on import operations and contemplated the analysis and monitoring of statistical data on the import of goods. In this sense, it was determined that it is no longer necessary to collect advance information for statistical purposes," the national official specified in his X account.
The repealed system had replaced the Argentine Republic Import System (SIRA) previously established by former Economy Minister Sergio Massa. The current Finance Minister congratulated Pablo Lavigne, Secretary of Productive Coordination, and Juan Pazo , head of the Tax Collection and Customs Control Agency (ARCA), formerly known as the Federal Public Revenue Administration (AFIP), for the measure.
Caputo explained that "after this repeal, facilitation policies will continue to be implemented , with the aim of ensuring that trade exchanges are carried out in a simple, transparent, efficient and predictable manner, guaranteeing the conditions for their competition." Federico Sturzenegger , Minister of Deregulation and State Transformation, shared the post on X and commented on the acronym for “Viva la libertad, carajo (VLLC)”, for which it was retweeted by Javier Milei .
The joint general resolution 5651/2025 published in the Official Gazette explains that, “outside of any discretion”, the Government seeks to guarantee “the international rules established by the World Trade Organization (WTO)”. “It is necessary that import operations be conducted in a simple, transparent, efficient and predictable manner”, it argues.
“Having become unnecessary to collect information in advance for statistical purposes, it is now a priority to continue implementing facilitation policies in order to normalize foreign trade,” the document insists. “ Compliance with technical standards should not be a necessary condition for making an import declaration , but rather it should be guaranteed at the time of use and/or marketing, through the controls stipulated for this purpose by the Secretariat of Industry and Commerce within the framework of its powers,” the officials argued.
