The controversial marriage between two minors in Acapulco: 'These are customs and traditions,' says the mayor

A marriage arrangement that was announced with great fanfare on social media between two teenagers, originally from the community of Huamuchitos, belonging to the Communal Property of the rural area of Acapulco, Guerrero , maintains an intense debate about the legality or not of this type of celebrations, justified under the concept of respect for the uses and customs of the region.
It all started with a live broadcast, through the Facebook page of a local photography and video agency identified as “Producciones Beto”, in which the marriage arrangement between Celia and Gael was announced, both minors barely 13 years old .
Over the past 24 hours, the “marriage arrangement” was reported by hundreds of users on Facebook, so the broadcasts that documented this celebration were deleted from the main account of Producciones Beto.
Instead, a statement was published about the actions undertaken by the Guerrero government in the community of Huamuchitos, focused on raising awareness among the population about the rights of children and adolescents , as well as to guide them on the care and prevention of childhood pregnancy.
In the live broadcasts, Gael and Celia are seen holding hands, while a group of adult men talk and shake hands to close the “marriage arrangement,” while the young couple remain standing, witnessing the arrangement.
The musical group that entertained the celebration mentioned on several occasions 'long live the bride and groom!', referring to the minors who made a tour to greet the guests, without separating during the tour.
In this regard, local media approached and questioned the mayor of Acapulco, Abelina López Rodríguez, in relation to these events, who claimed to have information that the municipality did not formally receive any type of marriage between minors .
"The information that the director of the civil registry sent me is that no marriage was formally carried out , it was done as they say, out of 'uses and customs', without the legality , but that is no longer the responsibility of the authority as such, so there is an agreement between them, but officially we do not have any record," said the mayor.
