The incident occurred a few minutes after 10:00 a.m. local time on Yigal Yadin Street, at the Ramot crossroads in the north of the city, when two attackers opened fire, the Ministry of Defense reported.
The police reported that the two "terrorists" who fired the shots were "neutralized" on the spot.
"The injured were lying on the street and sidewalk near a bus stop, some unconscious," an MDA paramedic said in a statement, while another said there was "widespread destruction, broken glass on the ground, and great commotion."
According to several Israeli media reports, the attackers allegedly boarded a bus and opened fire on the passengers.
Following the attack, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said in a statement that he was conducting an assessment of the situation with security officials and that "even more severe measures" would be taken in what he described as "an intense war on terror."

"We are pursuing and surrounding the villages from which the killers came. We will catch all those who aided and abetted them, and we will take even harsher measures," Netanyahu said from the scene of the attack near the settlement of Ramot Alon, annexed as a neighborhood to Jerusalem.
The prime minister, who offered his condolences to the families of the six dead and support to the families of the twelve injured, stated that they are "engaged in an intense war against terrorism on several fronts" and vowed to "destroy Hamas," although the group has not claimed responsibility for the attacks.
"I want to say it as clearly as possible: These assassinations, these attacks, across all sectors, do not weaken us; they only strengthen our resolve to complete the missions we have set for ourselves," the prime minister said.
