Man dies after being sucked into an MRI machine

A 61-year-old man died after being pulled through an MRI machine at Nassau Open MRI in Westbury, Long Island, while carrying a heavy, nearly 20-pound exercise chain. The incident occurred while he was accompanying his wife to a knee checkup.

The incident occurred while his wife was undergoing a scan for a knee problem. Upon receiving permission, he entered the examination room without removing his metal chain, causing the powerful magnetic force to draw him toward the machine. After suffering several heart attacks, he died the next day in a nearby hospital.

Although both he and the staff had been aware of the chain's presence on previous visits, they allowed the man into the room without conducting the necessary inspections. His wife stated that they tried to stop the machine and unplug him, but were unsuccessful.

Biomedical specialists warn that MRI machines use very intense magnetic fields, making them a potential risk by attracting metal objects and causing serious injuries. This incident once again highlights the importance of improving safety and screening procedures before entering these facilities.
