Indigenous education teachers suspended classes and took to the streets

In demand of hiring personnel and recognition of teachers of the Indigenous Education level of Section 22 of the National Coordinator of Education Workers (CNTE) as “promoters” of education, they suspended activities and demonstrated in the streets.
Following an agreement by its state assembly, the union membership began a day of massive struggle on Monday by closing streets and avenues in this city, to demand attention to their demands.
During the morning, they gathered on the Cristóbal Colón International Highway 190, in front of the former headquarters of the Oaxaca State Institute of Public Education (IEEPO), near the capital.
They also blocked Federal Highway 175, near the Juarez Monument, located in San Sebastian Tutla, where they prevented vehicular traffic.
They blocked traffic on Héroes de Chapultepec and Emilio Carranza avenues, as well as the accesses to the first-class bus terminal.
In addition, they closed the intersection of Héroes de Chapultepec and Porfirio Díaz avenues, in front of a gas station.
The disruption of vehicular traffic caused problems for citizens throughout the day.
Other demands include recognition of promotions for managers, equipping schools and the 24 supervisory offices with educational infrastructure, as well as hiring the children of retired Education Support and Assistance Personnel (PAAE).
After noon, a commission from the Indigenous Education level entered the Government Palace to set up a negotiation table with officials from the IEEPO and the Government Secretariat (Sego).
