Griezmann and Koke renew their contracts with Atlético de Madrid.

Griezmann and Koke renew their contracts with Atlético de Madrid.

Atlético de Madrid has announced the agreements reached for the renewals of Antoine Griezmann until June 30, 2027, extending the contract between the two, which was due to expire in 2026, by one more year; and for Koke until 2026, whose contract was due to expire this season, after activating the current renewal contemplated in his contract.

This means the French striker will wear the red and white jersey for two more seasons. A shared future that has been in question in recent weeks. Griezmann's disappointing second half of the season, with his lack of performance and lack of consistency in most matches, led to speculation that the Frenchman might leave.

Overtaken by Sorloth as a starter in recent weeks and substituted under some whistles and the murmurs of the Metropolitano, the American league, the MLS , was strongly rumored to hire the Frenchman's services and end his career in elite football.

However, Griezmann and Atlético Madrid will remain linked for two more years. After 16 goals and ten assists in 53 matches this season, the first test to assess the renewed French talent's performance will be the Club World Cup, where the Red and Whites debut on June 15 against a European champion like PSG.

The striker joined Atlético in the 2014-15 season and after nine seasons – spread over two stages – has become the club's all-time top scorer with 197 goals. Griezmann is also the eighth player to have worn the Atlético shirt most times in an official match (442) and the third foreigner to have done so most times, behind only Oblak and Correa.

Koke has also signed a contract extension. In the case of the Atlético Madrid captain, his contract with Atlético was due to end this year, but both parties have agreed to activate the annual renewal included in his contract. Therefore, he will continue to play for Atlético Madrid until 2026.

The Rojiblanco youth player made his first-team debut on September 19, 2009. Since then, he has made history with his lifelong club, becoming, game after game, the player with the most caps on the red and white jersey: 681.
