Cemex premieres documentary about the El Carmen nature reserve in Coahuila

Cemex recently presented the documentary “Rebirth of a Sanctuary” , which showcases the natural wealth and conservation efforts in the 130,000-hectare protected reserve located in Maderas del Carmen, Coahuila .

It's worth noting that just last March , the company commemorated the 25th anniversary of its El Carmen Nature Reserve , coinciding with World Wildlife Day . Located on the border between Mexico and the United States, this reserve covers an area similar in size to the city of Los Angeles.
El Carmen encompasses five distinct ecosystems and is home to more than 1,500 plant species , 289 bird species , 81 reptile and amphibian species , and 80 mammal species . It has also received several international awards, including the Gold Conservation Certification from the Wildlife Habitat Council .
Additionally, a wildlife project successfully reintroduced the American bison , with 117 animals currently residing in the reserve. After a century of absence, the species completed its first breeding cycle with the birth of its first calves in 2023 .
Over the past 25 years, other species such as the desert bighorn sheep , pronghorn antelope , and desert mule deer have also been successfully reintroduced. Furthermore, El Carmen is home to one of the largest populations of black bears in Mexico .
The documentary's presentation was attended by Cemex executives , Governor Manolo Jiménez Salinas , and other authorities, who highlighted the ecological and social value of this cross-border conservation effort.
