At least 11 dead and more than 30 injured after a bus plunged off a cliff in Sri Lanka.

A passenger bus plunged off a cliff in Sri Lanka's mountainous tea-growing region early Sunday morning, leaving at least 11 dead and more than 30 injured. The accident occurred near the town of Kotmale, about 140 kilometers east of Colombo, in a mountainous area in the center of the country, police sources said.
The driver of the vehicle, who was injured, is among those hospitalized. According to authorities, the bus was operated by a state-owned transportation company.
Accidents of this type are common in Sri Lanka, especially in mountainous regions, where narrow, poorly maintained roads, combined with reckless driving, often lead to tragedies like this.
