Argentina abstained from voting on a UN resolution condemning Russian aggression against Ukraine

Representatives of the Argentine government at the UN vote on a UN resolution condemning Russian aggression against Ukraine and demanding the withdrawal of Vladimir Putin's forces.
Argentina was one of the 65 countries that abstained from voting on the resolution, which had 93 votes in favor and 68 against, including the United States, Russia, North Korea, Belarus and Hungary.
Russia's invasion of Ukraine, which began two years ago under Putin's orders, has caused the worst catastrophe in Europe since World War II, resulting in tens of thousands of deaths, millions of refugees and the destruction of entire cities.
Russia, which occupies 20 percent of Ukraine's territory, said it was ready to negotiate over the war but would only stop fighting when a peace deal "suited" it, and accused Europe of wanting to continue hostilities.
President Donald Trump sided with Russia, blaming Ukraine for the outbreak of the conflict on February 24, 2022, and began talks with Moscow without Ukrainian or European participation.
