Israel-Iran conflict: Foreign Office advises against travel to the United Arab Emirates

Following Israel's recent attacks on Iran, several airlines have canceled or diverted flights to the Middle East. The Lufthansa Group has also adjusted its connections. For security reasons, no flights to Israel have been offered since the beginning of May. According to current plans, Tel Aviv Airport will no longer be served until July 31, Lufthansa informs on its website under "Flight Information." Affected passengers will be notified and rebooked on alternative flights if available, the airline states.
According to the website, flights to and from Tehran, the capital of Iran, will also be suspended until July 31. The reason is the tense security situation following the Israeli attacks on Iranian nuclear and military facilities. Iranian, Iraqi, and Israeli airspace will also "not be used for overflights for the time being," a Lufthansa spokeswoman told dpa.
According to dpa, the regular flight schedule actually includes five weekly flights between Frankfurt and Tehran. These have been temporarily canceled. According to operator Fraport, there has been little impact at Frankfurt Airport so far: Two inbound flights from Tehran and one departure there have been canceled. In addition, four aircraft from other airlines had to make stopovers in Frankfurt for refueling due to diversions caused by closed airspace, the report added.
Other airlines are also reacting to the situation:
- Emirates is canceling all flights to and from Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon and Iran.
- Flydubai suspends flights to Amman, Beirut, Damascus, Iran and Israel.
- Qatar Airways is no longer flying to Iran and Iraq for the time being.
- Syrian Airlines stops all flights to Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.
Travelers should check with their airline for any changes before departure. Connecting flights may also be affected by route changes.
Due to the reciprocal air strikes, the Federal Foreign Office has recently also advised against travel to the United Arab Emirates (UAE), which includes the popular holiday destinations of Dubai, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Qatar, Kuwait, Oman, and Jordan. In connection with the conflict, security-related incidents and the closure of airspace could occur in the UAE at any time, according to the website. Several airlines have suspended flights to the region.
The Federal Foreign Office also continues to warn against travel to Iran : According to the agency, extended closures of Iranian airspace, airports, and borders, as well as further cancellations of flights, cannot be ruled out. A travel warning has also been in effect for Israel since June 13. A travel warning is issued for countries where there is a danger to life and limb. However, it is not a travel ban.
