On Thursday, September 4, the Slovakian national team will host the German national team at the National Stadium in Bratislava. Dutch referee Serdar Gözübüyük will kick off the 2026 World Cup qualifying match at 8:45 p.m.
Nine years ago victory and defeat against SlovakiaThe two nations have met eleven times, with Germany winning eight and losing three. Their last meeting was nine years ago. In the round of 16 of the 2016 European Championship, Jerome Boateng, Mario Gomez, and Julian Draxler secured a 3-0 victory and a place in the quarterfinals. Just a month earlier, Germany was not in European Championship form, losing 3-1 to Slovakia in a friendly match in which Joshua Kimmich made his international debut.
Now, nine years later, there could be debuts again against Slovakia: Mainz's Paul Nebel and Frankfurt's Nnamdi Collins have been called up for the national team for the first time. Finn Dahmen is also playing for the first time, but the Augsburg goalkeeper will likely start out as a number three.
