Several seriously injured after promotion: Fans go berserk even before the final whistle: Video shows HSV escalation
HSV beat SSV Ulm 6-1 on Saturday evening, thus securing their return to the Bundesliga. Fans at the Volksparkstadion went completely wild, storming the pitch and jumping from the stands. Dozens of people were seriously injured.
Some of them jumped from the stands, a fire department spokesperson said. There were also injuries from scuffles. A total of 44 patients received medical treatment.
A few minutes before the end of the game, some fans stormed the pitch, knocking down advertising hoardings in the process. By the end of the game, there was no stopping them: police even had to prevent some fans from entering the locker room.
HSV made it to the Bundesliga for the first time in its history on Saturday evening – and the fans' joy was correspondingly great, quickly escalating. Immediately after the final whistle of the 6-1 victory against SSV Ulm, the fans stormed the pitch.
