Saad out for the season - St. Pauli's personnel concerns grow

FC St. Pauli's personnel problems are becoming increasingly serious ahead of the Bundesliga season finale. Striker Elias Saad is another key player who will be out for a long time.

As the Hamburg club announced on Monday afternoon, the 25-year-old sustained a structural muscle injury in his right thigh on Saturday while warming up for the match against VfB Stuttgart (0-1 loss). This diagnosis was confirmed by an MRI scan, the club further stated. Saad, who is the promoted team's second-leading goalscorer with three goals, along with Johannes Eggestein, will be sidelined for weeks.

This means the outside attacker will miss the remaining two games of the season, next Sunday (5:30 p.m., in the live center at NDR.de) against Eintracht Frankfurt and on May 17 (3:30 p.m.) against VfL Bochum. St. Pauli currently needs a point from both matches to secure their place in the league.

Mets, Sands and Irvine are also missing for a long time

In addition to Saad, coach Alexander Blessin will also be without defensive specialists Karol Mets and James Sands, who are also long-term injured, for the matches against Frankfurt and Bochum. Captain Jackson Irvine will also be out for months. The Australian had to undergo surgery on his left foot in London last week.

Vasilj suspended for one match after yellow-red card

Goalkeeper Nikola Vasilj will also be unavailable for the Hanseatic League match against Frankfurt. The Bosnian received a second yellow card for complaining in stoppage time of the clash with Stuttgart and is therefore suspended for one match. Summer signing Ben Voll, five years his junior, is likely to make his Bundesliga starting debut in the 29-year-old's place.
