The favorite for the Conference League title makes short work of it: Chelsea FC comfortably beat Swedish underdogs Djurgården. AC Fiorentina lost to Real Betis in the second semi-final first leg, but thanks to Robin Gosens, they still have hope.
In the Conference League semifinals, Chelsea FC lived up to their role as favorites against Swedish side Djurgardens IF, securing an excellent starting position for the return leg in London next Thursday (9 p.m./RTL+). The final will take place on May 28 in Wroclaw, Poland.
Chelsea dominated from the start in Stockholm, converting their efforts into a deserved halftime lead through goals from former Dortmund player Jadon Sancho (12') and Noni Madueke (43'). Substitute Nicolas Jackson (61'/65') added another quick brace after the break, before Isak Alemayehu (68') pulled one back for underdog Djurgårdens.
Gosens and Florence under pressureMeanwhile, national soccer player Robin Gosens and his long-established Italian club AC Fiorentina are in danger of being eliminated just one step away from the final. Fiorentina lost the first leg of their semi-final against Real Betis 2-1 (0-1) and now desperately need a win in the return leg at their home Stadio Comunale Artemio Franchi next Thursday (9 p.m./RTL+) to secure their third consecutive final appearance.
Abde (6') and Antony (64') inflicted Fiorentina's first defeat in a run of nine consecutive competitive matches. The visitors from Tuscany, with Gosens playing on the left, only managed to pull one back through Luca Ranieri (72') after strong work from the 30-year-old German, which at least increased their chances of turning things around in the return leg.
After the early setback from Sevilla's winger Abde, Fiorentina struggled to find their footing. In the second half, however, Betis increasingly pressed for a second goal, which they finally achieved with a fine long-range effort from Brazilian Antony. Even after Ranieri's goal, Betis remained the more dangerous side. The victorious Spanish hosts thus confirmed their strong form of the past few weeks. Betis have lost only one of their last 14 competitive matches, but have won nine.
