After their renewed triumph at the European Football Championship, England can dig deep into the UEFA bonus pot. The German Football Association also earns handsomely as a semi-finalist, which also benefits the players.
By winning the final of the European Championship, England's women's football team earned their national team an additional bonus of €1.75 million. Spain, who lost on penalties in Basel, received €850,000. In total, England will receive €5 million from the tournament in Switzerland. Spain will receive €4.2 million.
The European Football Union (UEFA) offered a total of €41 million for the European Championship, more than double the amount awarded in England in 2022; at that time, the participating national associations received a total of €16 million. The players receive a guaranteed share of the prize money.
All teams were guaranteed a starting bonus of €1.8 million each. The German Football Association will receive €2.7 million after two group stage wins and a semifinal appearance for national coach Christian Wück's team. Before the tournament, it was negotiated that the players would receive €65,000 each for reaching the semifinals. A European Championship triumph would have resulted in €120,000.
With more than 650,000 fans in the stadiums and approximately 400 million TV viewers, Switzerland also set several records at the European Championships. "We are super happy, totally euphoric," enthused Nadine Keßler in an interview with Sportschau. She has "so many positive emotions that will continue to haunt me." Keßler, a former German national team player, is women's football director at UEFA. "Seeing how the Swiss are falling in love with women's football and how many people have traveled internationally for women's football for the first time," says Keßler, is simply "unbelievable."
