Immediately after the start of the Quattro Group British Supersport Championship race at the Oulton Park circuit southeast of Liverpool on Monday, an accident involving eleven riders occurred. One rider was also taken to hospital with serious back and abdominal injuries.
Five other riders suffered minor injuries, while three remained unharmed. The race in the lower-class Bennetts British Superbike Championship series was abandoned after the horrific accident. Police will now investigate the exact circumstances, it was announced.
The so-called Supersport Championship typically consists of 600cc motorcycles, which are slightly smaller than those in the Superbike class. The series is an important stepping stone for some riders to advance to higher levels.
