Personnel | Evangelical Chief Aide
In the Gaza Strip, food distribution centers have been closed again—until further notice, according to the ominous Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF). Instead, the GHF has a new director: the US evangelical Reverend Dr. Johnnie Moore. He takes over the position after his predecessor, Jake Wood, resigned at the end of May. Wood suddenly had scruples and began to doubt whether the organization would truly adhere to "humanitarian principles."
Moore is no stranger, and his profile fits perfectly as a cover for an organization that, instead of distributing bread and water, is shutting down. Rather than distribution, the GHF's goal appears to be to create shortages of vital goods, putting humanitarian aid at the service of a warring party .
Moore, 41, like many evangelicals, including Mike Huckabee, the new US ambassador to Israel, is a staunch supporter of a Jewish state based on his interpretation of the Bible, according to the New York Times. He also confided in the newspaper in a 2017 interview that he and his evangelical cronies had pressured Donald Trump to move the US embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem during his first term as president and to recognize Israel's sovereignty over the city – contrary to international law.
In the past, Moore has worked for Donald Trump. According to the Times of Israel, he is considered a liaison between evangelical Christians and US President Donald Trump and is a member of the US Commission on International Religious Freedom. He was early on a supporter of Trump's idea that the US should take over the Gaza Strip. "The US will take full responsibility for the future of Gaza and give everyone hope and a future," he wrote on X, where he also criticized the UN food distribution program (which normally operates 408 centers in Gaza) for allowing Hamas to control deliveries.
According to the critical news site The New Arab, Moore's close relationship with Trump began in 2016 when he joined the former president's evangelical advisory council. He regularly attended prayer meetings at the White House, praising Trump's staunch support of religious freedom and conservative Christian values, which often coincided with pro-Israel policies.
The new GHF president refuses to acknowledge any mention of Israeli military shootings at the distribution centers . He dismisses it as all Hamas propaganda. One can be sure that he will put his stamp on the humanitarian aid machinery in the Gaza Strip, and it will be entirely in line with the wishes of the right-wing governments of Israel and the United States.
