Grand Tattoo: Chancellor Scholz lets himself be carried away by one last joke

Finance Minister Jörg Kukies had almost fallen asleep when Scholz suddenly blurted out a joke. The outgoing chancellor delivered a calm, almost empathetic speech on Monday evening for his Grand Tattoo.
During his remarks, the camera captures Finance Minister Jörg Kukies, who is also leaving office. His eyes literally seem to close. It's unclear whether Scholz himself noticed this. In any case, he does allow himself to be carried away by a joke immediately afterward.
Scholz said: "It was the honor of my life. And I say that because it might not always be immediately apparent to a North German like me."
"More empathetic than has often been the case," political scientist von Lucke described the speech afterward. "It would have been good to hear that more often." Then comes the military parade, the highest honor the Bundeswehr has in store for an individual. These are the final hours in office of the 9th Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany.
