Canada: Prime Minister Carney's Liberal Party wins parliamentary election

Reading time: 4 min.
Canada's Liberals can continue to govern. They owe this in large part to Donald Trump. The US president's ideas have ignited a Canadian national consciousness that is perhaps unprecedented.
On the day Canada voted, Donald Trump was campaigning again. So, on Monday morning, the US president wrote on his Truth Social network that his neighbor should choose a man with "the strength and wisdom" to make Canada "the cherished 51st state of the United States of America." However, neither of the two main candidates intends to do exactly that, and the candidate who best embodies the contrast to Trump won: Mark Carney, 60, a liberal.
