According to initial findings, a custody dispute was the reason for a man driving into a group of people. Among the five injured were his 40-year-old wife and his five-year-old daughter. Police quickly assumed it was a domestic violence incident and, that evening, cited a custody dispute as a possible trigger for the incident.

The 48-year-old Iraqi was arrested and initially questioned. A decision on his detention is expected on Sunday. The Passau Criminal Investigation Department, together with the Passau Public Prosecutor's Office, has taken over the investigation, according to the report. According to current information, the charge is attempted homicide.

No danger to life

The driver's wife and daughter, along with the three other injured people, were initially treated in the hospital. None of them were in critical condition. Police have not yet been able to determine the relationship of the other injured people to the family.

According to police, the man, along with his wife and daughter, live in the Passau area. At around 3:30 p.m., the man drove his car into a group of people on the sidewalk on a street near the main train station in the city of three rivers. Police quickly assumed that the man had deliberately driven the vehicle into the group of people.
