Opinion: Leave your breasts as they are!

Yoga boobs, ballerina style – suddenly women's busts are supposed to be as androgynous as possible. Our author disagrees.
In New York, plastic surgeons have to reorder silicone breast pads in size XXS. The smaller, the better. Their clients currently want just enough bust to fit into a sports top, while still maintaining a slim, graceful silhouette where nothing can get in the way of their asanas. And quite firm, please: yoga breasts, in other words.
When will it stop being declared a trend for a certain natural body shape? Experience shows that sooner or later it's out of fashion, and the next ideal is proclaimed. Then suddenly the opposite is considered desirable. If things go wrong, you've just decided to undergo the wrong procedure.
Sure, these days, surgery can be used to address this quite quickly. But I wonder how often such a reconstruction is possible without resulting in practically nothing but scar tissue in particularly sensitive areas. I imagine it would be extremely complicated on the nose, and, sorry, I'm reminded of the late Michael Jackson. But the same goes for the breasts: silicone padding in, silicone padding out again. Is there actually a limit to how many repetitions you can have before the stitches fail? And, let's be honest, you have to have the money for it first.
Why can't we take it as it comes? For a while, breasts couldn't be big enough. It all started with the push-up bra, which was minimally invasive at best. No girl, no young woman, dared to leave the house without padding in her bra. I found that very strange. Surely no one can help how breasts develop?! Just as little can anyone do anything about whether one has thin or full lips, dark or pale skin. What is there to judge, or even devalue?
And above all: What's so beautiful about all of us looking the same? Where's our personal charisma? Isn't it precisely the individual that makes the difference? In Low German, there's a wonderful saying: N' beten scheef hett Gott leev (N' beten scheef hett Gott leev) . Translated, this means: "God loves a little crooked," and that in turn means: Not everything has to be even or perfect.

If you want to be beautiful, you have to suffer – really? These days, more and more women are having their silicone breast pads removed or at least replaced with smaller ones. They've probably realized why women with naturally grown DD to H breasts are increasingly desperately seeking breast reduction surgery (spoiler alert: back pain, digging bra straps, intrusive stares at their chin and belly button area). But the saying still seems to hold: If you want to be beautiful, you have to suffer!
And definitely keep up with the times. Now, the boyish type, who, in modern terms, is labeled yoga/ballerina. The motto "breasts out" takes on a whole new meaning. Of course, social media also provides role models for this, which we can emulate. While the poorest of women once had to practically hide, they now reap admiration in the glittering spotlight. It's only fair, really.
Which makes me wonder if that's exactly the deal: Everyone gets their turn with the trendy look of their breasts, lips, or buttocks! Just wait, your time will come, and you won't have to be sad if something turns out too big or too small for you.
In reality, we are currently witnessing a major measure of justice.
Well, then I'm relieved.
