#57 – The Frisian house Lämmerland on Sylt – with Vicki Hinrichs

Garden designer Vicki Hinrichs talks about Lämmerland, her 300-year-old Frisian house in Morsum on Sylt. The Hamburg native has been visiting the island since childhood, is a passionate gardener, and has now turned her hobby into a profession.
Nearly 15 years ago, she bought the 140-square-meter house from an elderly woman who found the property too large and labor-intensive. Designing the 12,000-square-meter estate, which was formerly used for sheep farming (hence the name Lämmerland, or Lamb Country), was one of her first major projects on Sylt. After running a casting agency in Hamburg with her sister Katrin for many years, she moved to London, completed an "Art Business" course at Sotheby's, and subsequently studied garden design. Since then, Vicki Hinrichs has designed other gardens, furnished houses, and transformed a fire pond into a swimming pond on her property, both on Sylt and in Hamburg.
Antje Wewer explains why she relies on oleasters and wild roses, how to care for a thatched roof, and what she likes to do most on Sylt.
