The legal The statutory health insurance system (GKV) is in a precarious financial situation . Last year alone, the funds were short more than 6 billion euros. And despite the significant increase in additional contributions at the turn of the year, the GKV is heading for a new billion-euro deficit in 2026. Health Minister Nina Warken ( CDU ) has therefore promised radical reforms and set up a commission to draw up concrete plans by spring.
Warken has not ruled out benefit cuts . The party » The Left Party "strictly rejects this and has convened an expert hearing of the Health Committee under the motto "Prevent benefit cuts and exploding contributions in health and care – Introduce fair financing now." The party has developed several short- and long-term proposals to stabilize statutory health insurance finances.
"The Left" also demands that private long-term care insurance (PPV) be integrated into the social long-term care insurance (SPV) compensation fund in the short term. In the long term, privately insured individuals should be fully integrated into the statutory health insurance and social long-term care insurance (SPV). Private health insurance ( Private health insurance (PKV ) would thus be abolished as a comprehensive insurance. Instead, a comprehensive long-term care insurance policy for everyone would be introduced.
