Union faction does not consider change to debt brake necessary

Berlin – Union parliamentary group deputy Mathias Middelberg (CDU) does not believe major changes to the debt brake are necessary. "Debt is not the solution in the long run, we must be clear about that," Middelberg told Politico's "Berlin Playbook" podcast (Thursday). "In the end, you have to resist the temptation to incur ever more debt." A commission of experts tasked with developing proposals for reforming the debt brake is scheduled to begin its work this Thursday. "Based on my current understanding, so to speak, I do not see further changes to the debt brake as necessary," Middelberg said. "But that does not mean that we cannot reach different conclusions in sound expert discussions." According to Middelberg, a reform without a constitutional amendment is also conceivable. There are "wise considerations that the Council of Economic Experts already expressed, about a year and a half ago." These related to the cyclical component of the debt brake, Middelberg said. "Such changes would be possible without amending the Basic Law."

The combination of AI explosion and energy transition brings the industry back into the spotlight:
- Data centers consume megawatts – solar power offers the cheapest price per kilowatt hour
- Modern modules deliver efficiencies like nuclear power plants
- hina curbs price dumping & massively pushes expansion
This offer is only valid for a short time – so don’t hesitate, secure it now!
