When the children have left home, the rooms only contain memories and the large property is more of a burden than freedom, many people long for change. A tiny house seems to be the perfect solution: compact, reduced to the essentials and often cheaper than a traditional home.
But while the small houses are built quickly, finding a plot of land is the biggest challenge. Anyone who wants to live permanently in a tiny house has to deal with numerous building regulations - and often finds that minimalism looks easier on paper than in practice.
