"What the US president is celebrating as a 'big deal' is one thing above all: crude blackmail that exploits Ukraine's wartime plight. In its fight for survival, the Ukrainian army is dependent on US support. If the US pulls out, Russia will win the war. That is why Selenskyj rejected an initial, even more brazen draft deal, but in the end had no choice but to accept it. (.) One thing is now clear: Trump's actions must not only shock the EU, they must also have consequences. Europe needs new strategies, its own answers, new directions as quickly as possible in the Ukraine war and in dealing with Russia.
