The United States was long considered what investors called a safe haven. Whenever global stock markets declined or a crisis loomed on the horizon, investors sought refuge in US Treasury bonds or the US dollar as their currency. US stocks were also viewed by many private and professional investors as a way to park their money in a relatively crisis-proof manner, in anticipation of impending adversity. But since Donald Trump has been irritating the financial markets on a weekly basis with his erratic statements on tariffs, stocks, and the Fed's monetary policy, many investors have felt one thing above all: unsettled.
