Aviation: The complicated path to more efficient engines

Business is going well at the Munich-based DAX group MTU Aero Engines. However, there are problems with important technology projects.

The distant future of aircraft engine manufacturer MTU Aero Engines is soon to begin here, in this low-rise building that resembles a giant construction container. Large metal pipes lead outside, thick lines to a neighboring building, and directly opposite are tanks for liquid and gaseous hydrogen. Visitors are not allowed inside. There isn't much to see either; it's still being built, they say.
