Allianz shares: A plus for the balance sheet

Allianz AG is currently experiencing remarkable price increases on the stock market. On Wednesday, the insurance giant's share reached a new 52-week high of 334.70 euros in XETRA trading. The daily gain was 2.67 percent, which underlines the positive development of the security. In the current year, the share has already increased by almost 12 percent - a remarkable performance in a challenging market environment. Market observers associate this price development with the group's future-oriented strategy, in particular with the increased investments in the field of artificial intelligence. Since 2020, the insurance group has been increasingly focusing on further training its employees in the field of AI and is pursuing a comprehensive qualification strategy. The company offers a wide range of educational programs tailored to different skill levels. The demand for these programs is enormous - last year alone, more than 12,000 employees took part in the so-called "AI Run", which shows the great interest within the workforce.
Criticism of the national flood protection program
In addition to the positive stock market developments, Allianz is currently making headlines with criticism of German flood protection. Frank Sommerfeld, head of Allianz Versicherungs-AG, criticized the slow progress of the national flood protection program, which was launched in response to the devastating floods of 2013, in an interview with the "Tagesspiegel" newspaper. After more than a decade, just three percent of the planned measures have been completed, five percent are in the completion phase and 14 percent are under construction. More than three quarters of the projects have not even started yet. "At this rate, we will be finished in 2150," criticized Sommerfeld, warning: "Anyone who cuts costs on dike protection is causing disasters in the future." The increase in extreme precipitation events as a result of climate change, predicted by experts, could significantly increase the amount of damage for insurers like Allianz in the future.
