Verdi strike wave in March also in Berlin: Daycare centers, hospitals, garbage collection affected

A wave of strikes is apparently coming to Germany soon. According to media reports, the union wants to call for strikes in several areas - including Berlin.
There is apparently a threat of strikes lasting several days in public companies nationwide from mid-March. As the Tagesspiegel newspaper reported, the Verdi union plans to call for work stoppages as early as next week, but only in individual facilities, such as municipal hospitals.
But from March 12 to 14, more extensive strikes are apparently looming. This will affect not only employees in public hospitals, but also those in daycare centers, district and regional offices, garbage collection, municipal energy suppliers and fire departments. There will also be strikes at the Berlin Transport Company (BVG) and the post office.
There have been several strikes in Berlin in recent weeks. On Tuesday and two weeks ago, the Berlin City Cleaning Service (BSR) went on strike for several days. In mid-November, there were also warning strikes at the Charité and Vivantes. Non-medical staff, especially nursing and therapeutic staff, were called out. The BVG went on strike for a full 48 hours last week, and the wage dispute has been going on for longer. On Wednesday, the BVG board and the Verdi union will meet for their fourth round of negotiations .
