Dramatic seconds on the tracks: In St. Gallen, a train and a car collided. An 83-year-old driver and her 10-year-old passenger escaped the accident at the last second - their vehicle was then dragged hundreds of meters.
On Monday evening, a collision occurred between a train and a car in St. Gallen ( Switzerland ). An 83-year-old driver and her 10-year-old passenger were able to get to safety in time. No one was injured, but there was considerable material damage.
The accident occurred shortly after 6:45 p.m. at the Weidweg railway crossing, according to the St. Gallen cantonal police. The 83-year-old woman was crossing the tracks in her car when her vehicle came to a stop for reasons unknown. While the barriers were closing, she and her passenger were able to leave the car. Shortly afterwards, an approaching train hit the unoccupied vehicle.
The impact dragged the car several hundred meters before it came to a complete stop on the tracks. The material damage to the train is estimated at several tens of thousands of Swiss francs.
At the time of the accident, there were an estimated 80 passengers on the train. Like the train driver, they were uninjured. The railway line remained closed in the area of the accident site on Monday evening.
