Seven children killed in school roof collapse in India

At least seven children were killed when a school roof collapsed in India. At least 26 other students were injured, according to police, when the roof and part of the walls of the school in the Jhalawar region of western India collapsed on Friday. According to police, about 60 students and several teachers were in the single-story building during class at the time of the accident. Villagers rescued numerous injured people from the rubble.
According to local media, there had been several complaints in the past about the dilapidated condition of the school building. Public schools in India are chronically underfunded. There are repeated complaints about a lack of teachers, dilapidated buildings, and the lack of basic infrastructure such as toilets and drinking water. The situation has improved in urban areas in recent years, but modernization is progressing slowly in rural areas.
