Paraglider pilot crashed in Vorarlberg

A 61-year-old man had a paragliding accident in alpine terrain in Vorarlberg on Friday. The recreational athlete had taken off for a flight that morning in Vandans (Bludenz district). Near the summit of the Madrisa mountain near Gargellen (Montafon), he encountered turbulence and crashed into rocky terrain below the summit, Vorarlberg police reported.
The 61-year-old himself and a witness to the accident alerted emergency services. The injured man from Vorarlberg was rescued by a rescue helicopter from Liechtenstein and flown to the hospital with injuries to his upper arm and spine.
