A restaurant with 600 years of history will soon reopen in Munich. The menu is not yet finalized. But a tradition is returning.
After more than five years, a traditional Munich restaurant is coming back to life: The Palais Keller at the Hotel Bayerischer Hof will reopen on December 2nd. Under the direction of Michael Konietzny, it will serve contemporary interpretations of Bavarian cuisine. The new head chef is currently working as sous chef in the event kitchen at the Bayerischer Hof, as reported by the "Abenzeitung".
The long closure had a simple reason: the hotel couldn't find a suitable head chef for over two years. Even a headhunter was unable to find anyone, according to the "Abendzeitung" newspaper. The restaurant closed in March 2020 – just a few months after an extensive redesign by designer Axel Vervoordt.
The team primarily uses regional products from the surrounding area. Thanks to the open kitchen, guests can watch their meals being prepared. A tradition is making a comeback: the complimentary bread basket with fresh pretzels from the in-house bakery will once again be served at every table.
The Palais Keller was built in 1443 as a salt storehouse and converted into a restaurant by Falk Volkhardt in 1972. The historic vaulted cellar offers 196 seats. The restaurant is initially open only in the evenings from Tuesday to Saturday between 6 pm and midnight.
