Axel Springer's widow: This rich Potsdam woman becomes honorary citizen of Berlin

Friede Springer has a fortune worth billions. Now she is being given a special honor.
The Governing Mayor of Berlin, Kai Wegner (CDU), is making the billionaire heiress Friede Springer an honorary citizen of Berlin. As the Berlin Senate announced on Tuesday, Wegner will give the laudatory speech for the deputy chairwoman of the supervisory board of Axel Springer SE on Wednesday at 1 p.m. in the ballroom of the Red City Hall.
" Friede Springer has always accepted and overcome the challenges of life and times," said the governor. For many years, Springer has also been committed to strengthening relations between Germany and Israel. Wegner continued: "Her tireless commitment and her modest yet determined demeanor make her a highly valued personality. Our new honorary citizen has rendered outstanding services to our Berlin."
With her foundations, the Potsdam native has been particularly involved in medical and health research, which benefits Berlin as a health location. Most recently, Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier and the conductor Daniel Barenboim were awarded honorary citizenship of Berlin.
Friede Springer is considered the richest woman in Berlin and Brandenburg. Estimated wealth: 2.9 billion euros. The 82-year-old is the widow of publisher Axel Springer and co-owner of the Springer publishing house with the newspapers Bild and Die Welt.
