Accident at the Deichtorhallen: Cyclist seriously injured in accident in Hamburg
A cyclist was seriously injured in a traffic accident in Hamburg on Sunday evening. According to police, the woman was cycling in light rain near the Deichtorhallen shopping center when she was struck by a car at the Deichtorplatz/Amsinckstraße crossing. Initial findings indicate that the 48-year-old woman ran a red light. According to police, the 59-year-old driver drove off when the light was green and apparently couldn't see the woman in time due to poor visibility. An emergency stop was unsuccessful due to the rain-soaked road.
The cyclist reportedly suffered head and leg injuries and was taken to a hospital. The driver was uninjured. Police closed Deichtorplatz for about an hour to record the accident. The investigation into the exact circumstances of the accident is ongoing. Several media outlets previously reported.
